Campus culture
We encourage you to be part of our cultural life. Alongside great nights out, LU Arts offers a busy programme of creative events and activities for everyone to enjoy.
Our evening classes and one-off taster sessions are a great way to learn new skills, meet people and add something unusual to your CV. From screen printing to photography, wood turning to pasta making, crochet to song writing – challenge yourself and try something new.
We also manage a variety of competitions – a fantastic way to showcase your work. As well as a portfolio and CV boost, winners and runners-up often receive cash prizes.
What's on
If it’s entertainment you’re after, there’s lots on offer.
Our Happy Monday events in the Students’ Union, including Speech Bubble (performance poetry) and Acoustic Night, are very popular. They’re run by students – and include open mic slots, if you fancy taking to the stage.
, our contemporary arts programme, connects artists and academics. Drawing on current research, the artists devise performances, curate exhibitions and installations, and facilitate workshops. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in these unique events.
We’re not short of performance spaces and practice rooms – many of which are free to use.
Our campus theatre, the Cope Auditorium, can seat up to 226 people. It hosts concerts, film screenings, dance and drama productions. Meanwhile, when it’s not serving as a lecture space, the Martin Hall Theatre can be booked by LSU societies for a range of events.
The Martin Hall Gallery hosts exhibitions throughout the year and can be booked by postgraduate students to showcase their research.
Martin Hall is also home to several music rehearsal rooms which are equipped with pianos. You can use them free of charge, seven days a week.
Beyond campus, 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ has a busy arts scene. Our 91ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ Arts Map offers a great introduction to what’s on and where. It was designed by Maya Patel (Graphic Design, 2026).
