Head Coach Charles Baxter used the cup fixture to rotate his squad, with Rebecca Hogg and Morgan Rogers returning to the starting line-up as they continued their respective returns from injury.
Lightning started quickly, dominating possession and creating an early opportunity for Olivia Mitchell, whose close-range effort narrowly missed the far post.
The hosts did not have to wait long for the breakthrough, however, as Lucy Chads opened the scoring with a tidy finish inside the box. Lightning continued to apply pressure, adding two further goals before half-time through Issy Conway and Chads, who completed her brace.
There was a change at the break, with Mitchell replaced by Doris Greenwood as Lightning continued to manage the return of players from injury.
Sheffield started the second half with greater resolve, sitting deeper and making it more difficult for Lightning to find a way through. However, the hosts extended their lead on the hour mark when Becky Hogg was brought down following a strong run into the box.
Captain Morgan Rogers stepped up and confidently converted the resulting penalty before being replaced by Lucy Mutch.
Chads then completed her hat-trick in the 68th minute, racing through one-on-one with the onrushing Sheffield goalkeeper before showing composure to finish and make it 5-0.
Lightning continued to dominate as the game entered its closing stages, with Sheffield camped deep in their own half. The pressure eventually told as substitutes Hannah Langford and Ella Jarowicki added three late goals between them, with Jarowicki scoring twice to complete an emphatic 8-0 victory.

Lightning now return to league action on Sunday when they travel to Tier 3 newcomers Peterborough United.
They will then host Chesterfield on Wednesday 17 September in the rearranged FAWNL League Cup tie, following the original fixture’s abandonment due to Lightning.
